Q:"How does wool really work anyway? Isn't it itchy & hot?"
The Perfect Diaper Cover
Wool is impressive. It has this wondrous
ability to hold nearly 40% of its weight in fluid without feeling wet &
allows moisture to evaporate. Not only does wool allow air to circulate through
its fibers, but its natural antibacterial properties make it a perfect fiber for
diapering. In the past, common misconceptions that 'wool is "itchy" &
therefore, uncomfortable' kept diapering mamas at bay. In fact, the "itchy"
reputation is owed to the harsh chemicals used to treat the wool to destroy
& remove burrs & vegetable matter without damaging the wool beyond use.
The carbonizing process may cause allergic reaction. True, some people do have a
wool allergy and many times due to fibers floating during fabrication, but likely to a particular wool.
For wool next to skin,
Merino is very soft wool & in particular, many
mamas' first choice. What we do with wool, is to strip the wool if necessary
& restore the lanolin which is the natural oil found in wool. Before
marketing any wool, the final product is gently washed in a Eucalan bath [ &
depended upon the intended use, felted ] thus producing a fine diapering product
not only fit for use, but ideal in every sense. In fact, wool diaper covers may be used for up to seven days if not soiled.
